Ralf Piorr

Ralf Piorr (* 1966 in Einbeck ) is a German historian and publicist .

Life

Piorr moved from Lower Saxony to the Ruhr area in 1987 . He studied history and sociology at the Ruhr University Bochum and graduated with a Magister Artium . He has a level B soccer coaching license and has been coaching youth and senior teams regularly since 1999. Since 2003 he has been working as a freelance journalist and author. He is the founder of the football feuilleton Drei Ecken, ein Elfer - articles on ball culture in the sports newspaper RevierSport . In 2010 Piorr worked on the SchachtZeichen Capital of Culture project and published the soccer journal "HEIMSPIEL B1 /". Since 2011 he has been the publisher of Edition RevierSport , a media series by Klartext Verlag , which is committed to the special features of football in the Ruhr area. For the 50th anniversary of the Bundesliga, Piorr published the voluminous volume "We children of the Bundesliga. 50 years of first-class football on the Rhine and Ruhr". Since 2008, the historian has also been researching articles for WDR television documentaries, such as Auf Shift: A Life for Steel or It Happened in North Rhine-Westphalia: The Great Petrol Fraud , about Erhard Goldbach and the Goldin company , (each in cooperation with the production company taglichtmedia, Cologne ) .

From 2004 to 2009 he carried out the project “Seams, felt, here” in memory of the victims of the Holocaust in Herne and Wanne-Eickel . The project ended in 2010 with a central memorial in memory of the victims of the Shoah in Herne and Wanne-Eickel. In 2012 the book he edited about the deportation of 800 Jews to the Polish city of Zamość was published in April 1942.

In 2010 he founded adhoc Verlag with layout artist Kerstin Rau (1967–2012).

The historian has been working for the city of Herne since October 2012. In January 2015, the permanent exhibition he designed on the history of Flottmann AG was opened in the Flottmann-Hallen in Herne. The reopening of the local history and natural history museum in Wanne-Eickel took place after three years of renovation under the new name Heimatmuseum Unser Fritz in April 2017. The city history exhibition, for which Piorr was responsible as curator, met with enthusiastic reactions.

In December 2017 Piorr published the biographical story of a miner he found, "Die Men von Luise", in which the brutal nature of the Ruhr mining industry is described. At the same time, a stage version with the actor Till Beckmann and the musician Christian Donovan was created, which was celebrated with standing ovations at its premiere in February 2018 in the Literaturhaus Herne Ruhr.

Ralf Piorr has received numerous awards for his books. In 2014 the book "Vor Ort" was awarded the special mining prize by the "Forum Geschichtskultur an Ruhr und Emscher". In the follow-up competition “Hau rein! Mining in the Ruhr area. Everyday life. Knowledge. Wandel "were awarded in April 2018 to" Die Männer von Luise "and" HERNE 50/80. FOTOGRAFIE ". Ralf Piorr was awarded an Emmy in 2013 in the “Outstanding Research” category for research work on the German-American documentary film “Jesse Owens” . Ralf Piorr lives in Herne.
