Location of Holzen in Dortmund

Holzen is a south-eastern part of Dortmund in the Hörde district . As one of the few districts of Dortmund, Holzen is located south of the main ridge of the Ardey Mountains on the city limits of Schwerte . On January 1, 1975 the previously independent community was dissolved. Dortmund received 5.62 km² with then 5259 inhabitants. 1.91 km² with a population of 3,100 at that time were reclassified to the town of Schwerte. The A1 motorway was set as the new border between Dortmund and Schwerte.

The term wood is derived on the one hand from the lush forest areas in the district, on the other hand the term indicates a spacious area. Holzen, formerly called Holthusen, was first mentioned in 1486 in the treasury of the Grafschaft von der Mark with eleven farms or cottages.

The center of the district is located at the intersection of Kreisstrasse and Heideweg; it offers all options for local supply through the discounter Netto Marken-Discount , the full-range retailer Edeka and the Edeka beverage store for daily needs.

In addition to the volunteer fire brigade , you will also find the SV Holzen 1844 rifle club, whose archery department has provided Olympians and team world champions.

The most famous sports club in the district is the TuS Holzen-Sommerberg 92/07 eV with 1142 members. The football department plays in the Holzen Eintracht Stadium.
