Old postcard "On the snow"

The Dortmund district of Schnee , also known as “Auf dem Schnee”, is part of the Hombruch district and is located in the extreme south of Dortmund, largely on the back of the Ardey Mountains . It forms part of the city limits to Witten and Herdecke . In these two cities, too, there are districts with the name Schnee (→ Schnee und Ende ) directly adjacent . The areas of the three cities flow into one another.

The name snow is derived from an old word for “border”, cf. Schnadegang .

A school had existed on the snow since 1863 and a schoolhouse since 1876. The school building (which bears the lettering "Old School") now serves as a residential building.

The Gottessegen workshops of the Christopherus-Haus e. V. , a recognized workshop for people with disabilities, operates a gardening shop on the snow. The Gottessegen workshops have also been operating a cider factory within the nursery since 2005.
