The place Kleinholthausen (formerly also: Lütgenholthausen ) is one of the smaller Dortmund suburbs and belongs to the Hombruch district . It lies in the basin of the Kirchhörder brook between Hombruch in the north, Brünninghausen in the east, Kirchhörde in the south and Löttringhausen in the west. As of December 31, 2013, 859 residents lived in Kleinholthausen.

The village, which belonged to the rural community of Kirchhörde until it was incorporated into Dortmund in 1929, is still rural today. On the edge of Kleinholthausen, bordering Hombruch, the spoil dump of the Glückauf-Tiefbau colliery - popularly known as the Gotthelf dump (after the shaft of the same name) - was made accessible and planted. The dump offers a good view of the southern Dortmund city center, the southern Dortmund suburbs, Witten and the Ardey Mountains .

There are only shopping opportunities in the surrounding towns. Kleinholthausen is connected to the traffic network by bus line 447 (Huckarde-Hombruch-Hacheney) of the DSW21 .
