The City is a statistical district and a district of the Dortmund city ​​district Innenstadt-West .

In addition to the historic city center of Dortmund (City-East and -West within the former ramparts), the district includes the statistical district Cityring-West, which includes a large part of the so-called Clinic Quarter, as well as the statistical district Cityring-Ost, to which the area between the Wall and the Holy Way or the Weißenburger Straße belongs.

The looped ramparts are now multi-lane roads. Most of the city's central facilities are located within the historical area.
