The old town house of the city of Dortmund was built in 1899 in the neo-renaissance style according to a design by city building officer Friedrich Kullrich . After being badly damaged in World War II , it was rebuilt, but in a slightly simplified form. At the top of the gable is the eagle of the Dortmund city coat of arms. The facades are made of red sandstone and plastered surfaces on the side parts. The coats of arms of the eight Hanseatic cities of Bremen, Hamburg, Cologne, Lippstadt, Lübeck, Münster, Osnabrück and Soest can be seen on the front.

When designing the design, Kullrich cited forms from the Old Town Hall . The historic town hall of the former imperial city, located a short distance away on the old market, was restored shortly before the construction of the old town house under the direction of the town planning council for the imperial visit to Dortmund in 1899.

The Berswordt Hall , which was built in 2002, and the new town house are attached to the old town house. The town hall is directly opposite on Friedensplatz .

The main user of the old town house is still the Dortmund city administration.

The town house is entered as a monument in the list of monuments of the city of Dortmund with two extensions .
