Kruckel is a south-western part of Dortmund in the district of Hombruch . Contrary to the spelling, the place name Kruckel is pronounced with a long u as a Kruhkel ( stretch-c ).

The neighboring towns are Rüdinghausen , which belongs to Witten, and the Dortmund districts of Persebeck , Großholthausen and Schnee .

The Grotenbach , which is part of the Emscher Cooperative Association , flows through Kruckel . The Grotenbach flows from Witten through Kruckel and flows into the Rüpingsbach in Hombruch . Kruckel was freed from faeces and industrial wastewater through targeted piping of the wastewater. The old concrete bed of the Emscher Cooperative was removed, but a final renaturation is still pending.

In economic history, Kruckel was important as the location of the United Wiendahlsbank colliery , which was founded in 1856 and operated coal mining until 1924. In addition to the colliery, VEW's first power plant had been in existence since 1908 . The Amprion (formerly RWE ) substation is evidence of the tradition of power generation in the district . As part of the new construction of a 380 kV power line from Kruckel to Rhineland-Palatinate, extensive renovation work began here in 2012.

In Kruckel there is also a cycle path, the Rheinische Esel , a former railway line.

The fire fighting train 17 of the Dortmund volunteer fire brigade is stationed in the neighboring district of Persebeck, at the confluence of Kruckeler Strasse and Menglinghauser Strasse. These roads form the main traffic routes in the village.

The place is integrated into the local public transport via line 448 of Stadtwerke Dortmund in the VRR . To the rail network Kruckel is on the train line S5 on the route of Dortmund main station by Witten and Hagen connected and has the station Dortmund-Kruckel its own station "Dortmund-Kruckel S".

The Kruckeler elementary school is located at the sports field of TuS Kruckel on Rüdinghauser Straße.

Persebeck has a kindergarten and an AWO on Grotenkamp Street. There is also a youth room in the AWO building and the kindergarten. Before the construction of the municipal building, old tunnels at the United Wiendahlsbank colliery had to be filled with concrete at great expense. In the area adjacent to the volunteer fire brigade and Menglinghauser Straße is the “Westentaschenpark”, a mini green area with play equipment and a football field .
