The Kruckel post-war train station

The Dortmund-Kruckel stop is on the border between the villages of Kruckel and Persebeck .

history

It was opened in 1897 as a Kruckel by the Prussian State Railways and originally served as a loading station for the United Wiendahlsbank colliery . From 1905 passenger trains also stopped here. In 1949 the station was renamed Dortmund-Kruckel .

Today the S5 of the S-Bahn Rhein-Ruhr, operated by DB Regio , stops here every half hour. The stop consists of two tracks, which can be accessed via side platforms. There is no artificial structure between the platforms, as the tracks can be crossed by the neighboring Kruckeler Straße level crossing (see picture). As part of the conversion of the old regional line N33 to today's S5, the platforms were increased to 76 centimeters. It is a through station on the Elberfeld – Dortmund railway line opened in 1848 by the Bergisch-Märkische Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft . From an operational perspective, it's a stopping point today . The operating points abbreviation is EDKR (Railway Directorate E SEN, D ortmund- Kr Uckel).

Traffic importance

The stopping point in particular opens up the Dortmund districts of Kruckel, Persebeck and partly the Witten districts of Rüdinghausen and Auf dem Schnee . Due to the round traffic of bus line 448 of the DSW21, there is only a rudimentary feeder traffic for the remote station.

After the owner gave up the restaurant in the former terminal building after 35 years for reasons of age, the building was up for sale together with the Park & Ride car park on the other side of the railway line. The former restaurant building has since been demolished.

Until 1988 there were also regular long-distance trains on the route. As part of the opening of the S-Bahn lines 1 and 2, the long-distance trains would have had to cross these S-Bahn lines in Dortmund Central Station regularly at the same height. To prevent this, the Deutsche Bundesbahn built a short new line between Dortmund-Dorstfeld and Bochum-Langendreer. The traffic volume in Dortmund-Kruckel has fallen significantly since then. Today long-distance trains and the Wupper Express only run via Dortmund-Kruckel when the line is closed and the trains have to be diverted. For a long time there was also freight traffic in Dortmund-Kruckel station, especially because of the sidings of the neighboring companies. Many single-wagon trains came from the Dortmund port or from the Hagen-Vorhalle marshalling yard via Dortmund-Kruckel to serve companies in Witten and Hagen.

outlook

In the 1970s, it was planned to relocate the Dortmund-Kruckel stop to Menglinghauser Strasse in the middle of the residential area of Rüdinghausen, Kruckel and Persebeck. In response to the intervention of a large retailer, Witten considered moving to the location of its furniture store in the 1990s. On the other hand, the Hombruch district spoke out in November 2006 in favor of maintaining the location and underlined this in direct negotiations with Deutsche Bahn.

Since all target agreements were terminated after the assumption of office of the former Transport Minister Oliver Wittke ( CDU ), it can currently be assumed that nothing will change in the location of the stop. Plans to upgrade the S5 and thus also implement a continuous 20-minute cycle in Dortmund-Kruckel were rejected by the integrated overall traffic planning of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , a resubmission is possible from 2015.
