Grevel ( Low German : Griëwel) is a village-like district in the north-east of Dortmund and belongs to the Scharnhorst district .

Grevel was incorporated into Dortmund on April 1, 1928.

Today's Grevel district is sparsely populated and, with its large number of farms, has a rural character. The sights of the small community include the Lanstroper Ei water tower and the Rote Fuhr air shaft as part of the Route of Industrial Culture and the old mill . Grevel also includes the Hienberg, which is connected to the north-east landfill .

The large settlement Scharnhorst-Ost , which adjoins it to the south , was built in 1965 on an area that was part of the Grevel district at the start of construction, but was then added to the Scharnhorst ( Alt-Scharnhorst ) district formed in 1931 . Grevel lost almost half of its area through the large settlement, but retained its rural character through the transfer.

In contrast to most of Dortmund's districts, Grevel still has a large number of interesting half-timbered houses, and the place has retained its village character , especially on Greveler Strasse and Werzenkamp .
