The Barop Parkhaus underground station is a light rail station of the Dortmund Stadtbahn in the Barop district of Dortmund .
Location and structure
The stop is in Barop on the inner-city main street Stockumer Straße . Until the end of 2004, the name-giving restaurant "Parkhaus Barop" was located in the immediate vicinity. After its demolition, a new building was opened in 2007, and there is also a supermarket on the site today. Today the light rail line crosses a state road at no level. The entrances to the tram are barrier-free using escalators and elevators .
A few meters west of the Stadtbahn line is the Dortmund – Witten line , on which the S5 line of the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn runs. The Dortmund-Barop stop is about 700 meters south and can only be reached via detours from the tram station.
history
A tram stop has existed around the current location since 1899. With the opening of the line from Hombruch via Barop to Brünninghausen by the Hörder Kreisbahn , the then independent Amt Barop received its first rail connection to the district town of Hörde . A year later, the branch to Eichlinghofen that branches off at the level of the parking garage was opened. In the years 1925–1927, Dortmunder Straßenbahnen GmbH opened its first express tram line , which ran from Mengede via Barop to Hombruch. This route was also given a stop near the parking garage, where it was possible to change to the Hörder Kreisbahn trains. The previously meter-gauge line from Barop to Hombruch on the circular path was converted to standard gauge for this purpose .
The remaining meter-gauge lines to Eichlinghofen and Brünninghausen-Hörde-Aplerbeck were closed after 1935. After the Second World War, only the connection from Scharnhorst through the city center to Hombruch remained, which was initially operated as line 4, and after the establishment of the VRR as line 402.
As part of the expansion of the tram, the stop was rebuilt. After the railway line crossed Stockumer Straße at ground level, the station was rebuilt from 2003 in a lower position under the street. The new station went into operation on March 20, 2005.
service
The underground station is now served by the U42 line of the Dortmund Stadtbahn . You can change to the DSW21 bus lines .

Planning
About 500 meters further south is the Dortmund-Barop S-Bahn station , which can only be connected to bus line 446. In contrast, the Barop parking garage is the more important hub in the city center. The City of Dortmund is therefore trying to relocate the Dortmund-Barop train station to the Barop Parkhaus stop in order to achieve a significantly better link between the S-Bahn and inner-city traffic. However, Deutsche Bahn rejects the relocation for reasons of cost.
