The district of Hörde (until 1911 district of Hörde ) was from 1887 to 1929 a district in the administrative district of Arnsberg in the Prussian province of Westphalia . It essentially comprised the south of today's city of Dortmund and today's area of Holzwickede and Schwerte . The district seat was in the independent town of Hörde until 1928 .
Administrative history
The Hörde district was formed on April 1, 1887 from the southern part of what was then the Dortmund district. In 1888 it was divided into six offices and a total of 30 communities:

In 1905 Annen-Wullen was renamed Annen. The city of Hörde left the district on April 1, 1911 and became a district-free . Since then the district of Hörde has been called the district of Hörde .
In 1922 Eichlinghofen, Menglinghausen, Persebeck and Salingen were incorporated into Barop as well as Hacheney, Lücklemberg, Niederhofen and Wichlinghofen after Wellinghofen and Rüdinghausen after Annen. The district now comprised six offices and a total of 20 municipalities:

On August 1, 1929, the Hörde district was dissolved. Aplerbeck, Barop, Berghofen, Kirchhörde, Schüren, most of Sölde, Syburg and Wellinghofen were incorporated into Dortmund. Schwerte and the Westhofen office with the communities of Garenfeld, Geisecke, Holzen, Lichtendorf, Villigst, Wandhofen and Westhofen were transferred to the Iserlohn district . Annen-Wullen was assigned to the city of Witten . Hengsen, Opherdicke and the municipality of Holzwickede , which had been enlarged by part of Sölde, were incorporated into the Hamm district (from October 17, 1930, the Unna district ). The independent city of Hörde was incorporated into Dortmund on April 1, 1928.
In 1975 the municipality of Garenfeld was incorporated into the city of Hagen . Schwerte, the Westhofen office - without larger parts of Holzen and Lichtendorf - and the municipality of Ergste formed the new town of Schwerte and were added to the Unna district. Holzwickede, Hengsen and Opherdicke were combined to form the new municipality of Holzwickede. Holzen and Lichtendorf were for the most part incorporated into Dortmund.
Reasons for dissolution
Of 52 mines that had to be shut down for economic reasons in the Ruhr area between 1923 and 1925, six were located in the Hörde district. The resulting tax loss was substantial. As part of the municipal reform of 1929, the district was dissolved because financial survival could no longer be guaranteed.
