The district of Bilstein was a district in the administrative district of Arnsberg in the province of Westphalia that existed from 1817 to 1818 .

history

With the transition of the Duchy of Westphalia from Hessen-Darmstadt to Prussia , this area was assigned to the administrative district of Arnsberg in the province of Westphalia. One of the newly formed circles had its seat in Bilstein . The circle consisted of the former justice offices of Bilstein, Attendorn and Olpe . Around 23,500 people lived in the district. The first and only district administrator was Caspar Freusberg .

However, the seat of the district was moved to Olpe by the Prussian Ministry of the Interior as early as 1819 and renamed the Olpe district . One reason for the relocation was that the town of Bilstein was too small to be an administrative center and, due to its topographical location, offered little room for expansion. The main part of the former district area fell to the district of Olpe. A smaller part with Schönholthausen and Fretter came to the Eslohe district and thus later to the Meschede district .
