In 1969, the Detmold district bordered clockwise in the north, beginning with the Lemgo district and the Lügde exclave of the Höxter district (both in North Rhine-Westphalia), the Hameln-Pyrmont district (in Lower Saxony ) and the Höxter and Paderborn districts (both in North Rhine -Westphalia).
history
The Detmold district was created in the Free State of Lippe as a result of the municipal reform in 1932. It was formed from a union of the district offices of Detmold and Blomberg with the unofficial cities of Blomberg , Horn , Lage (Lippe) and Schwalenberg . The administration of the new district was formed in the city of Detmold, which initially as an independent city did not belong to the district area. In 1934 Detmold was also incorporated into the district. Since then 96 towns and communities have belonged to the district.
The Free State of Lippe became part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia on April 1, 1947 due to British Military Ordinance No. 77 of January 21, 1947, so that the Detmold district also came to North Rhine-Westphalia. On October 1, 1949, until then belonging to the district Detmold were enclaves Cappel and Lipperode in the district Lippstadt in Arnsberg reclassified. The municipality of Spork was renamed Spork-Eichholz in 1954 . The two communities Oesterholz and Haustenbeck were merged in 1957 to form the community Oesterholz-Haustenbeck .
On October 1, 1969, the district became the Detmold district.
Before the municipality reform, the district was divided into 93 municipalities, of which Blomberg, Detmold, Horn, Lage and Schwalenberg had town charter. Until 1967 there were also five uninhabited forest districts. In the course of the reorganization of the Detmold and Höxter districts, which came into effect on January 1, 1970, regulated by the “ Law for the reorganization of the Detmold district ” and the “ Law for the reorganization of the Höxter district ” of December 2, 1969, the city became effective Lügde and the communities Harzberg and Kempenfeldrom from the Höxter district were incorporated into the Detmold district and the Lippe exclave Grevenhagen handed over to the town of Steinheim in the Höxter district. In addition, Hörstmar and Trophagen moved to the district of Lemgo and were incorporated into the city of Lemgo . All other communities in the Detmold district were merged into eight new towns and communities: Augustdorf , Bad Meinberg-Horn (renamed Horn-Bad Meinberg a few months later ), Blomberg , Detmold, Lage , Lügde, Schieder-Schwalenberg and Schlangen . The area of the district increased from 626.6 km² to 662.1 km².
The district was opened on January 1, 1973 in the course of the North Rhine-Westphalian district reform under the Bielefeld Act by merging with the Lemgo district in what is now the Lippe district . The district administration remained in Detmold.
