The neighboring districts of Detmold are, clockwise, Niederschönhagen , Vahlhausen , Hakedahl , Brokhausen and Barkhausen . Mosebeck probably originated in the late Middle Ages, around the 12th or 13th century. During this time, numerous forest hoof settlements were set up on clearings in the densely wooded hill country of Lippe . Mosebeck is a bilateral Waldhufensiedlung, characterized by the fact that the farmers' property strips are lined up on both sides of the Mosebecke . These towel-like pieces of land behind the homesteads were called hooves . Other Waldhufendörfer in the vicinity are for example Hakedahl, Klüt , Dalborn and Meiersfeld. Today the settlements Altenkamp, Lehmbrink and Loholz with mill pond belong to the old town center on Barntruper Straße.

On January 1, 1970 Mosebeck was incorporated into the district town of Detmold.
