history

Hiddesen around 1904

The name Hiddesen probably comes from the personal name Hildo , Hilde or Hiddo . For centuries, Hiddesen was very closely connected to Heidenoldendorf. It was not until 1729 that Hiddesen got its own church, a cemetery and a school.

On January 1, 1970, Hiddesen was incorporated into the district town of Detmold.

The district was a Kneipp spa until 2016 and is now trying to get recognition as a climatic spa .

The local mayor is currently Wilfried Mellies ( CDU ), who is also the representative on the city council .

Infrastructure

Due to the decline in pensions, Hiddesen is no longer as well attended as it used to be. In addition to an intact local food supply, there is a primary school, two kindergartens and an open all-day school, a pharmacy, doctors, three churches, service providers in many areas and craftsmen for almost all trades.

Attractions

In the immediate vicinity of Hiddesen there are excursion destinations such as the "Heidental" des Heidenbach and the nationally known Hermannsdenkmal as well as the LWL open-air museum in Detmold . Popular local recreation destinations are also the 110-hectare Donoperteich and Hiddeser Bent nature reserve . The Donoperteich was created in 1641 as a horse trough by damming the Hasselbach in the Hiddeser Forest. The name of the water, which was used for fish farming for centuries, goes back to the noble family von Donop . The Hiddeser Bent, only 600 meters off the Hermannsweg , is a nutrient-poor high moor . As early as 1920, the Donoperteich and the Hiddeser Bent were included in the list of natural monuments .

Hiddesen offers a water treading pool and a recently renovated outdoor pool. The gardens of the Sanatorium Grotenburg are under monument protection . The glacier cut in the former gravel pit Kater is designated as a natural monument . There are also some clubs in the village, e.g. B. the sports club VfL Hiddesen, the garden friends, choirs and others.
