history

In 1954, the municipality of Spork applied to be allowed to use the double name Spork-Eichholz in order to avoid the frequent confusion with places of the same name. The application was approved by the Ministry of the Interior in North Rhine-Westphalia in the same year. From August 11, 1954, the municipality was called Spork-Eichholz .

On January 1, 1970, Spork-Eichholz was incorporated into the district town of Detmold.

In 2008 Spork-Eichholz was 650 years old. On April 24th and 25th, 2009 Spork-Eichholz celebrated its 650th anniversary. A 5.5-ton memorial stone on Hornschen Strasse, unveiled by Mayor Helmut Steinert, is intended to commemorate the birthday. The 20,000-year-old boulder was recovered from a meadow on the former Schwabekampfbahn and now adorns the center of the village. At the climax of the 650th anniversary of the town, thousands of participants and guests came to celebrate their spork oak wood and to march through the village in a more than 500 meter long parade.

The peasantry Spork initially comprised only one settlement with four farms on the north bank of the Werre , which is first mentioned in 1358 as in the Sporke or in front of the Sporke . It shows that three of the farms belonged to a von Gummern family. Gottfried von Gummern is also referred to as the owner of the farm on whose land the Johannettental estate was later built. By inheritance, this area came into the possession of the sovereigns, who converted it into dairy land . In 1736 the princely farm buildings were relocated here from Schlossplatz in Detmold. The princely Meierhof located between Spork and the city center was named Johanettental in honor of Countess Johannette-Wilhelmine.

Eichholz was created as a colony east of Eichholz, a Hude in stately ownership, on the southern bank of the Werre and was expanded considerably in 1609. In 1779 a resident named Dreimann received permission to run a village mug and sell beer and brandy. This resulted in the Dreierkrug in the center of Spork-Eichholz, today a well-known music bar.
