Bentrup is a district of Detmold and is about seven kilometers north of the city center. Bentrup borders in the south on the Detmold districts Loßbruch and Oettern-Bremke . The village of Bentrup was first mentioned in 1010, when Bishop Meinwerk von Paderborn acquired real estate in Bentrup from King Heinrich II . The citizens of Bentrup are active in sports in TSV Bentrup-Loßbruch from 1921.
On January 1, 1970, Bentrup was incorporated into the district town of Detmold.
A total of 480 citizens live in Bentrup on an area of 3.3 km² (August 2006). Local mayor is currently Lothar Arndt ( SPD ), the representative in the city council is Rüdiger Preuß (SPD).
