Location of Hakedahl in the urban area

Hakedahl is a district of Detmold and is about three kilometers north of the city center. The neighboring districts of Detmold are Klüt , Brokhausen , Vahlhausen and Detmold-Nord . Hakedahl is made up of the former communities of Herberhausen , Hohenwart and Hakedahl. Around 1427 a court group was established, which is mentioned as Hawkesdahl (Habichtstal) in old documents. Hohenwart was a two-farm settlement connected with Hakedahl. The Herberhausen estate was built by the von dem Bussche Burgmann family and later acquired by the von Exter family. In 1761 the estate passed into civil ownership. Today only part of the late medieval tower granary is preserved. The house and garden pavilion date from the late 19th century and were built by the then owner Heinrich Niemeyer (1869–1906). There are also two Kötter houses and a cemetery on the estate . The Herberhausen estate was an independent municipality until 1918.

On January 1, 1970, Hakedahl was incorporated into the district town of Detmold.

In Hakedahl, a total of 2260 citizens live on an area of 3.0 km² (August 2006). The local mayor is currently Andreas Rempel ( CDU ), who is also the chairman of the citizens' association and has been volunteering for Herberhausen for many years. He has made the integration of the various ethnic groups his most important task.

Herberhausen

Herberhausen is a district of Detmold, which is assigned to the district of Hakedahl and whose name comes from a manor of the same name nearby. On March 1, 1920, the manor was integrated into the Hakedahl community.

Until 1995 soldiers of the British Rhine Army lived in the settlement in rectangular, multi-storey houses from the 1960s, which were stationed at Detmold airfield . The settlement was called Hakedahl and was colloquially known in Detmold as "Little London". After the soldiers withdrew, the settlement was renamed Herberhausen and the new Hohenloh district was created on the area of the nearby air base .

Herberhausen was initially a social hotspot. Around 2000 people lived in the approximately 800 apartments; over 90% of them are migrants - mainly Russian Germans and Kurds . More than half of the population was under 25 years old. The proportion of recipients of ALG II was considerably higher than the average in other Detmold districts. In 1997 the district was accepted by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia in the “Districts with Special Need for Renewal” program and several million euros were invested over several years. In 2003 the district was characterized by a high number of vacant apartments.
