Heidenoldendorf is a district of Detmold and is about two kilometers west of the city center. The neighboring Detmold districts are clockwise Detmold-Süd , Hiddesen , Pivitsheide VH , Nienhagen , Jerxen-Orbke and Detmold-Nord .
Finds in the forest heather suggest that the first settlement as early as 2000 BC. Took place. The name could be derived from the Heidenbach or the parish Heiden . Heidenoldendorf was first mentioned in documents in 1339 as Oldentrup and in 1342 as Hedernoldendorf, which at that time consisted of nine farms. However, the Aldanthorpe farm is mentioned as early as 859 , which was either in Heidenoldendorf or in Hornoldendorf . During the Everstein feud (1403-1407), a war of succession, massive damage was also inflicted on the Kerkhofe to Hederenoldendorpe . The oldest bell in the church dates from 1473, as its inscription indicates. Until 1729 there was a close community with Hiddesen, in which the church, the cemetery and the school were used by the residents of both places.
The Kupferberg cemetery in Heidenoldendorf is 13.3 hectares in size, next to the old cemetery on Blomberger Straße with 2.8 hectares, the main cemetery for the city center. The name Kupferberg dates from the 17th century, when the Hasselbach a Kupper Hammer was built. The coppersmiths obtained copper ore from Olpe and Kassel in order to process it into bowls and tablets. The energy for the forge was provided by the Hasselbach and charcoal. Later pots and pans were also produced, but prices fell from 1720 due to the large number of other coppersmiths in Bielefeld , Herford and Minden . From 1750 the coppersmith's shop in Heidenoldendorf was shut down and soon fell into disrepair.
The former community of Braunenbruch was incorporated on March 1, 1920. On January 1, 1970 Heidenoldendorf was incorporated into the district town of Detmold.
In Heidenoldendorf a total of 8704 citizens live on an area of 6.03 km² (August 2006). This makes it the district with the largest population outside of Detmold's town center. Local mayor is currently Heinz-Joachim Köhne (SPD), representatives in the city council are Dennis Maelzer (SPD) and Jörg Thelaner (CDU).
