Location of Brokhausen in the city area
|
Brokhausen ( Low German : Breoksen ) is a district of Detmold and is located about four kilometers to the northeast from the city center. The neighboring districts of Detmold are Hakedahl , Klüt , Barkhausen and Mosebeck . The name Brok comes from Bruch , which is used to describe a swampy area. From 1621 there is a document in which the village of Brocksen is mentioned. The place is much older, because there is evidence that there was a Pothof in Brokhausen as early as 1390 . The Pothof had a pond that still exists today as a village pond. It formed the center of the former peasantry, which for centuries consisted of scattered farms and kötter settlements .
Today you can visit well-preserved half-timbered houses in the district. The Brokhausen Easter Cycle Run is a spectacle that is repeated every year .
On January 1, 1970 Brokhausen was incorporated into the district town of Detmold.
The 4.1 km² district of Brokhausen has 620 inhabitants (as of August 2006). The local mayor position is currently vacant and the representative in the city council is currently Rüdiger Preuss ( SPD ).
