Jerxen-Orbke is a district of the city of Detmold in the district of Lippe , North Rhine-Westphalia . It is located about four kilometers northwest of the city center. The adjacent, neighboring districts are clockwise Nienhagen , Niewald , Oettern-Bremke , Klüt , Detmold-Nord and Heidenoldendorf .

history

Numerous Stone Age finds prove an early settlement of the area. At the Werre in the Orbke district, a late Ice Age living space with a work area ( open-air station ) was discovered. The living space is part of the Ahrensburg culture , dating from around 10,000 BC. Stone Age tools were also discovered on the Oetternbach in Jerxen. a. a stone ax.

Jerxen-Orbke was formed by two farmers who had to hand over the church tithe to the Bishop of Paderborn in early Christian times . The first mention of Jerxen comes from the years 826–867 as a trade union . Orbke was first mentioned in 1303 as Andrea de Andorpe . In the 13th century, the two localities became Lippe. In the 18th century, both farmers belonged to the Vogtei Heiden administrative district, a neighboring village that today belongs to Lage . Most of the Jerxen Orbkers went to school and church here. From 1879 Jerxen-Orbke belonged to the newly formed Detmold Administrative Office.

The first map of Jerxen-Orbke dates from 1728. It was made by the court painter and surveyor Johann Christoph Friemel at the time. The map shows four farms on the Oetternbach and seven other farms on the Werreufer . The oldest farm is the Brinkmeyer-Hof in Jerxen with the number 1 at the time (today: Klüter Straße 20). In 1328 it was first mentioned as Brynkhof in the Lippische Regesten . Ten of the original eleven farms still exist today. Some have artistically designed archway inscriptions and are listed buildings . They are located on today's Orbker and Klüter Strasse. The former Hof von Kaup, later Meierherm, is located on Orbker Strasse. Today the restored yard is used by AGA GmbH , an initiative that offers around 60 workplaces and care for the mentally ill. The main areas are the recycling yard, waste recycling and the pre-assembly of electronic components for domestic companies.

In 1889 Jerxen-Orbke got its own school on today's Lageschen Straße. The first main teacher was Heinrich Schacht, a well-known ornithologist (see below). The school was expanded several times due to the increasing number of students. The old school building is used today as a village community center by the clubs.

In addition to the Orbker Krug (built in 1903, today a Greek restaurant), the Belfort inn , built in 1863, was a central meeting point in the town. The name goes back to the general Karl August Graf von Werder , the victor of the battle of Belfort . He was the godfather of the first child of the Werder family, who had leased the inn at the time. The Belfort Inn was closed in 1972 and demolished in 2000 due to the construction of the northern bypass.

In the late 1960s / early 1970s, many farmers sold their land to the city of Detmold. Jerxen-Orbke developed into an important industrial location for Detmold. Globally active companies such as Weidmüller (housing systems, tools, electronics) or Wortmann (shoe manufacturing) are based here.

The community was renamed Jerxen-Orbke around 1900 . On January 1, 1970 Jerxen-Orbke was incorporated into the district town of Detmold and thus lost its independence as a municipality.

Jerxen-Orbke has a primary school, today's Oetternbachschule (built in 1898, then called Jerxer Schule ) and a kindergarten (built in 1972/73). Between school and kindergarten, in the center of Jerxen-Orbke, is the sports field of the sports club 'Eintracht' Jerxen-Orbke from 1925 e. V. Line 704 of the Detmold city traffic runs every half an hour between Jerxen-Orbke and Detmold city center. In the district itself there are various service companies for local supplies. A hiking trail several kilometers long leads around Jerxen-Orbke for local recreation.

Today a total of 3350 people live in Jerxen-Orbke on an area of 3.0 km² (August 2006). The incumbent local mayor is Klaus Lömker ( SPD ), who is also represented on the city council .

Attractions

  • The Pauluskirche in Jerxen, built by the Jerxen-Orbker architect and master bricklayer Philipp Krug, is worth seeing . He designed the church roof in the shape of a tent in memory of the people of Israel on their way to the Promised Land. The huge glass window of the church was made by Wolfgang Perbandt in Berlin. It shows a fish, a ship, a chalice and a communion pastern. The altar bible was donated by the former Federal President Prof. Dr. Theodor Heuss. The inauguration of the church took place on November 16, 1958. The first pastor was Heinrich Bödeker.

Friedrich Gehring built a small house for the dead, which today serves as an equipment room. In 1956 the cemetery was enlarged and the cemetery chapel was built by Philipp Krug. The gable windows made of lead glazing were renewed in 1992 and manufactured according to a voluntary design by Wolfgang Dröge from Jerxen-Orbker. There are two cenotaphs in the cemetery that commemorate those who fell from the First and Second World Wars.
  • The Eselstein natural monument , also known as Eikerstein or Eigster , is located on the Ötternbach in Jerxen .
