history

The Lippische Heimatbund was founded on January 2nd, 1908 by 14 men in Detmold as the "Lippischer Bund für Heimatschutz und Heimatbund ". The association's first fields of activity were public relations work, in particular in the form of excursions and lectures on all aspects of homeland and nature conservation, and submissions to authorities, for example with regard to questions of building in accordance with the landscape, for which the Heimatbund set up its own building advice center before the First World War offered private building projects a point of contact for citizens seeking professional advice.

In 1937/38 the association was renamed the Lippischer Heimatbund. After the occupation of Lippe in World War II, the Heimatbund was initially banned by the British occupiers, but was re-established on August 19, 1946 with the approval of the military government. Plans to integrate the Lippisches Heimatbund into the Westphalian Heimatbund failed at the end of 1947 due to the resistance of the Lippisches Landespräsident Heinrich Drake . Even after Lippe joined the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , the Lippe Heimatbund remained independent.

Following the general meeting of the association on December 30, 1953 in Detmold, the Heimatbund was reoriented in terms of content and organization. In particular, the introduction of specialist offices and a change in the statutes relating to the establishment and acceptance of local associations in the Heimatbund formed an important cornerstone for its rapid growth. The membership of the Lippe Heimatbund rose from 217 (January 1, 1954) to over 10,000 in the following three decades. Since the late 1950s, the Lippische Heimatbund has also had a part-time managing director .

In addition to honorary memberships, the Lippische Heimatbund awards the Lippische Rose in gold (since 1960) and silver (since 1980) to personalities who have earned their homeland.
