The mayor of the community is the non-party Klaus-Peter Müller.

Name development

The name of the place developed from Dlupsow (1455) via Liebsa (1489), Lipsse (1552), Lupsch (1569), Lips (1590), Lypsa (1604), Liepsa (1610) to Lipsa (1791). Since the place name sounded too Slavic to the National Socialists , it was renamed Lindenort (derived from the Slavic lipa for linden tree ) in 1936. In 1947 it was renamed Lipsa.

History of the place and the castle

Lipsa Castle, 2008

The street green village Lipsa was first mentioned in 1455 and belonged to the Ruhland rule. The Lipsa castle was first mentioned in 1680. Wolf Heinrich von Baudissin built the current building, an elongated, rectangular, two-storey building with 1,720 pilasters and mansard hipped roof . In 1864 Ernst Christian August von Gersdorff took control of the Lipsaer Gut. He sold the Lipsa estate and the goods in Jannowitz and Hermsdorf to Lieutenant Carl August Tölke. The last private owner of Lipsa was Carl Maria von Eversfelde in 1942. A senior citizens' home was housed in the castle from 1945 to the 1990s. In 1992, "Burgenkönig" Herbert Hillebrand from Kerpen / Rhineland acquired the façade area of the castle, which had been renovated by the municipality, together with the Großkmehlen moated castle , which later became state ownership. Lipsa Castle is now owned by his daughter Anna Hillebrand. The castle is currently empty. It can be rented for festivities (weddings) through the municipality's registry office. The castle is one of the municipal monuments .

In 1993 Lipsa and Hermsdorf joined the Ruhland office .
