Lipsa Castle was first mentioned in 1680. Wolf Heinrich von Baudissin had the castle built in its current form from 1718 to 1720 and held Masonic Convents. As early as 1726, the castle was owned by Baroness Theodora Eugenia von Löwendahl , née. Baroness von Schmettau (1705–1768), who lived here until 1768. After the Counts of Redern , Count Ernst von Gersdorff took over the castle in 1831 , whose family had owned Gut Lipsa until 1671. In 1864 Ernst Christian August von Gersdorff took over the rule of the Lipsaer Gut. He sold the Lipsa estate and the goods in Jannowitz and Hermsdorf in 1890/1891 to Lieutenant Carl August Tölke. In 1904, Dr. Walter Neumann (or Naumann), owner of the Prussian government councilor Paul von Schumann in 1913. The latter had a neo-baroque wing added in 1914 , which resulted in the T-shaped floor plan and today's appearance. The last private owner of Lipsa from 1942 to 1945 was Carl Maria von Eversfelde , Baron von Beversfoerde.

After the Second World War, the castle was used in many ways. From 1946 to 1948 it was used by Caritas to care for the sick and the elderly, and it was also an asylum for homeless children. In 1949, an after-work home and a household school were set up in the castle . The school existed until 1953. The after-work home has been a nursing home for the elderly run by Diakonie Görlitz since 1992.

The castle and its ancillary facilities were renovated from 1993. In 1992, Herbert Hillebrand , known as the " Castle King", acquired the castle. It belonged to his daughter Anna until 2010.
