Schmettau (noble family)
Schmettau , also Schmettow , is the name of an old Silesian noble family .
history
The family first appeared in Hungary and Serbia under the name Szmettay in the 14th century . The sure lineage of the family begins with Georg Smete , documented from 1562 to 1579, citizen and grower in Neisse . Under Matthias Corvinus , the family initially spread to Silesia , from there in turn individual members of the family settled in Mecklenburg , Brandenburg and Denmark .
On September 28, 1668, Emperor Leopold I received a renewal diploma for her nobility and coat of arms, and in 1701 she was promoted to the status of imperial baron . On February 17, 1717, Emperor Karl VI. the family received a baron diploma and on February 24, 1742, Emperor Charles VII was elevated to the rank of imperial count , which King Friedrich II recognized on July 2 of the same year. In 1782 the Countess Anna Charlotte Christiane Wilhelmine von Schwerin donated . Countess von Schmettau (1712–1796) the Fräuleinstift zu Rietschütz . The individual diplomas and rankings were also associated with improvements or changes to the coat of arms. According to the author of the family chronicle, the family coat of arms is of Hungarian origin. According to him, the silver horizontal stripe through the shield represents the Danube . In the black shield, the two gold stars above the horizontal stripe are the parents and the golden star below is the child who was able to flee from danger. On the helmet with black and silver covers, a gold star between open black flight , each covered with a silver horizontal stripe .

The coat of arms in the Bohemian nobility and coat of arms confirmation from 1668 shows a shield divided lengthways, on the right in gold a half black eagle leaning against the dividing line and on the left the family coat of arms: in black a silver crossbar, accompanied by three (2: 1 ) golden stars. On the helmet with black and gold covers, the whole eagle with a gold star on its chest.

The coat of arms in the Reichsgrafendiplom from 1742 is quartered and covered with a countlessly crowned golden heart shield , inside a gold armored and nimbed black double eagle with a (Bavarian) breast shield awakened by silver and blue, in fields 1 and 4 in silver a black mastiff's head with a red section, a devouring red arrow, fields 2 and 3 like family arms, inserted between fields 3 and 4 a purple tip, inside a pyramid of 15 iron grenades, the top one on fire; Three helmets: on the right with black and silver covers three silver cock feathers, on the middle one with black and silver covers on the right, blue and silver covers on the left, the double-headed eagle, here crowned imperially with departing, golden fringed red ribbons, on the left with black and gold covers of the Family coat of arms helmet with the star between the flight; Shield holder : on the right a gunner in a blue coat with gold lapels and buttons and a black hat, with his right hand leaning on a fuse, with his left hand holding the shield, on the left armatures .
