Mechthild Countess of Schmettau

Mechthild Maria Reichsgräfin von Schmettau (* 1965 ) is a German lawyer and judge at the Federal Court of Justice .

Life

After her training as a lawyer , Countess von Schmettau entered the higher judicial service of the Free State of Thuringia in 1993 . First it was used at the district court of Erfurt-Stadt (the former district courts of the GDR continued to exist for a transitional period after German reunification ), then at the district court of Erfurt . In January 1997 she was appointed judge at the regional court. This was followed by secondments from October 1998 to February 1999 to the Arnstadt District Court , to the Thuringian Higher Regional Court for the whole of 2011 and to the Sömmerda District Court from January to September 2012 . In May, Countess von Schmettau was appointed judge at the Higher Regional Court of the Thuringian Higher Regional Court. She worked there until April 2016 before she was transferred again, this time to the Erfurt Regional Court, and was appointed presiding judge at the Regional Court. At the regional court in Erfurt, Countess von Schmettau presided over different chambers for criminal matters.

Countess von Schmettau is an assessor in the 6th Criminal Senate of the Federal Court of Justice, which was newly established on February 15, 2020 in Leipzig .
