Wolfgang von Schmettau

Wolfgang Freiherr von Schmettau (born October 28, 1648 , † February 5, 1711 in The Hague ) was a Kurbrandenburg minister and envoy.

After his appointment to the Secret Council of State in 1685, he worked as the Brandenburg envoy to the States General of the Netherlands . On May 2, 1698 he was appointed senior post director. After his resignation in June 1700, he took over the legation in the Netherlands .

His parents were Gottfried von Schmettau (* August 13, 1620; † February 2, 1668) and his wife Maria Elisabeth Friedrich (* October 5, 1629; † December 1, 1674). He himself was married to Charlotte von Fuchs (born September 20, 1669) a daughter of the Minister Paul von Fuchs . The couple had the following children:

  • Elisabeth Sophia (* February 6, 1698) ∞ Kurt Friedrich von Schoenebeck († July 28, 1742), Prussian colonel
  • Luise Henriette (born February 22, 1701) ∞ Sylvius Eberhard von Frankenberg and Ludwigsdorf (1682–1764), Prussian Real Privy Councilor and administrator of the Schmalkalden rule
  • Anna Katharina (born October 8, 1702)
  • Gabriele Maria (born July 20, 1704)
