Jannowitz is a district of the municipality Hermsdorf in the southern Brandenburg district of Oberspreewald-Lausitz in the Ruhland district . In Sorbian , Jannowitz is named Janecy .
geography
Jannowitz is located in the northwest of Upper Lusatia on the border with Lower Lusatia . The Ruhlander Schwarzwasser flows through the village, to the northwest is the Großer Dub pond.
In the southwest, the place Kroppen borders with its district Heinersdorf , which belongs to the administrative district Ortrand , to Jannowitz. The city of Ortrand lies further to the southwest . In the west, separated by the federal highway 13 , is Frauendorf . To the north of Jannowitz lies Arnsdorf , which, like the towns of Guteborn , Hermsdorf and Lipsa to the east, belongs to the Ruhland district. The city of Ruhland is an extension of the Arnsdorf Jannowitz connection north of Jannowitz. In the south, the Saxon communities Thiendorf and Schwepnitz join with the towns of Naundorf or Cosel and Zeisholz .

Name development
In 1479 Jannowitz was first mentioned as Jonewicz . The name developed from Janewicz and Janwitz in 1498 via Jonewitz (1528) and Jahnewitz (1529) to Jannewitz (1551) and Jannowitz in 1565.
Local history
Jannowitz, mentioned in 1479, was laid out as a street village and belonged to the Ruhland rule . From 1825 to 1952 Jannowitz belonged to the district of Hoyerswerda . In 1952, Jannowitz and the entire area around Ruhland came to the newly founded Senftenberg district . On December 31, 2001, Jannowitz was incorporated into Hermsdorf.
In the Jannowitz cemetery there are two war memorials for those who died in the two world wars.
