Westphalian Heimatbund
The Westphalian Heimatbund e. V. (WHB), as the umbrella organization of around 550 local homeland associations and around 700 voluntary homeland caretakers in Westphalia , performs tasks of regional homeland and cultural care. Its seat is in Münster .
He represents a group of around 130,000 people with a home connection in Westphalia . It was founded in 1915 for the area of the then province of Westphalia . During the time of National Socialism, the governor Karl-Friedrich Kolbow was chairman of the organization. Wilhelm Brockpähler later took over the management. Today his area of activity includes the Westphalia part of North Rhine-Westphalia .
As early as 1916, the association had 63,000 members. Originally the main tasks were monument and building maintenance, later the topics nature conservation and homeland preservation were added. Today, the focus is on the function as a service facility and mouthpiece for the members.
The association organizes the Westphalian Day every year . This takes place in changing cities and was first held in 1920. The general assembly of the Westphalian Heimatbund is always part of an extensive program, which includes discussions, lectures and excursions .
He gives u. a. the association organ Heimat Westfalen , which is published six times a year and is dedicated to an annual topic, each with a different focus. In addition, u. a. the permanent series of Westphalian art sites and technical cultural monuments in Westphalia , the yearbook Westphalia , monographs and hiking guides published.
The lawyer Matthias Löb has held the office of chairman since July 1, 2014 . Löb is also the director of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association . The election emphasizes the close cooperation between the two organizations. Silke Eilers, who has a doctorate in history, took over the management of the company on August 1, 2017, succeeding Edeltraud Klueting .
The WHB is supported by its organs - the general assembly, the executive board and the administrative board. The work of the association is also accompanied and supported by a board of trustees.
