In the village there is an integrative kindergarten for the disabled and non-disabled and a facility for assisted living.

history

The place was probably founded between 850 and 1050. In documents of the Corvey monastery from the 9th century several settlements with similar or the same name are mentioned, but there is no description of the location. According to the sources, one of the named Vahlhausen from the early 13th century can be identified with Vahlhausen near Detmold. The first sealed document dates from 1363. The damage record of the Everstein feud (1404–1409) indicates a Kerkhove to Vahusen , ie the existence of a chapel in the settlement. On June 2, 1609, 103 residents are counted in the place and after the losses in the Thirty Years War (1618–1648) there are only 71 people in Vahlhausen. In 1722 there are 47 buildings in the village. In 1774 the numbering of the houses was completed, with 16 landowners subject to tax being listed. The landowners include 6 Vollmeier , 2 Halbspänner , 1 Mittelkötter and 7 Hoppenplöcker . In 1774 there are 128 and in 1828 a total of 206 people in 46 houses. From 1854, the Vahlhausen farmers are divided into the village of Vahlhausen and Hohenwart. In 1900 there were 340 inhabitants in Vahlhausen and in 1913 the Protestant Reformed parish of Vahlhausen was founded, which in 1915 received its own church. In 1968 the almost 300-year history of the school in Vahlhausen ended with the conversion of the school into a kindergarten. On January 1, 1970, the independence as a municipality (with the official name Vahlhausen bei Detmold ) ends with the municipal reform. Vahlhausen becomes a district of Detmold.
