The Kupferberg is located west of the core town of Detmold in the district of Heidenoldendorf . The name comes from the 17th century when a copper hammer was built on the Hasselbach . The coppersmiths obtained copper ore from Olpe and Kassel in order to process it into bowls and tablets. The energy for the forge was provided by the Hasselbach and charcoal . Later pots and pans were also produced, but from 1720 prices fell due to the large number of other coppersmiths in Bielefeld , Herford and Minden . From 1750 the coppersmith's shop in Heidenoldendorf was shut down and soon fell into disrepair. Today the St. Bonifatius Institute 's youth education center of the same name stands on the Kupferberg .

The Kupferberg cemetery is located on the northern slope of the 197 m high mountain and, with an area of 13.3 hectares, is the main cemetery for the city center, next to the old cemetery on Blomberger Straße with 2.8 hectares. In 1986 the Heidemoor area on the Kupferberg was designated the 13th nature reserve in Lippe. The approximately 4.24 hectare nutrient-poor area, in the middle of which there is an Atlantic heather moor, is located at the northeastern foot of the Copper Mountain. It is the remnant of the former forest heather , which originally extended to the banks of the Werre , about 2 km away . The forest heather was only drained and used for agriculture in the 19th century.
