Poul Henrik Peter Hansen (born October 20, 1891 in Korup-Ubberud , Odense , † October 29, 1948 in Aarhus ) was a Danish wrestler and winner of the silver medal at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp in Greco-Roman. Heavyweight style.

Career

Poul Hansen began in 1907 with the rings . He was a member of the IK Aarhus sports club . Poul wrestled only in the Greco-Roman style and was one of the best Danish wrestlers of this style in light heavyweight and heavyweight after the First World War.

The greatest success in his sporting career he achieved at the Olympic Games in Antwerp in 1920 when he won the silver medal in the heavyweight division with five victories . In the fight for the gold medal he lost to Adolf Lindfors from Finland after a shoulder defeat . At the World Championships in Stockholm in 1922 , Poul won a heavyweight victory over the Hungarian Otto Szelky. But then he lost to the Swedes Anders Ahlgren and Ernst Nilsson and took 4th place.

At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1924 he was back in the heavyweight division. He achieved a victory over the Dutchman Johannes Sint. After defeats against Ernst Nilsson and Henri Deglane from France, who won the gold medal, he was eliminated after the third round and finished in 9th place.

Poul Hansen did not take part in any other international championships. At the end of the 1920s, however, he still started for the Danish national relay in international matches against Germany , but lost to Willi Müller from Cologne and Georg Gehring from Ludwigshafen am Rhein .
