Entlebuch is a municipality in the Entlebuch constituency in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland .
geography
The municipality is located in the southwest of the canton of Lucerne on the main road Lucerne - Bern . The entire municipality is hilly or mountainous. The village itself is located in the basin that the Kleine Emme created. At the point where the ducks join it from the right. The Grosse Entlen rises near the highest point in the municipality, the Wissgubergrat ( 1930 m above sea level ), on the border with the canton of Obwalden , and forms the border with the municipality of Hasle along its entire course . The entire high part of the municipality is heavily forested and very swampy in places. In the lower zones, the forest was cleared to make way for agriculture. The Schlierengrat with the Bärnerstig ( 1649 m above sea level ) forms the canton border between Obwalden and Lucerne as far as Schrotenegg . This then leads in a north-westerly direction over to Risetestock ( 1759 m above sea level ) and from there in a north-easterly direction to the Wängengrat . The (Entlebucher) Rotbach rises to the west of the Schlierngrat . This brook lies in a small high valley. It flows at 1158 m above sea level. M. from the right into the big ducks. Another tributary of the Grosse Entlen is the Älleggbach , which flows into the Grosse Entlen south of the small hamlet of Brüederen ( 1079 m above sea level ; 7.4 km southeast of the village). A little further down, directly north of Brüederen, the Eibach flows into the Grosse Entlen from the right . The Finsterwald district ( 1060 m above sea level ; 3.5 km south-east of the village) is located on the slope north over the course of the Grosse Entlen . The Fischbach , which rises to the west of the Risetestock, forms the border with the Werthenstein community until it flows into the Rümlig . As far as the Munistein homestead (like "Munimatt [e]" , the name derived from the Swiss German Muni for the alpine pasture above the Rümlig near the Hinterberg. Muni, as an abbreviation for Munizipalstier, is synonymous with the municipality's own breeding bull ) then forms the border. Between Rümlig and the Bramegggrat further to the west lie the hamlets and farmsteads which together form the Rengg district . To the west of the Brameggrat, up to the Kleine Emme, is the district of Ebnet ( 722 m above sea level ; 4 km north-northeast of the village). Ebnet is a street village that consists of the hamlets (from south to north) Mülacher , Ebnet and Bleiki . The Dieplischwand exclave ( 808 m above sea level ; 3.8 km southwest of the village) is located on the right bank of the Grosse Fontannen .
Half of the entire municipality (50.1%) is used for agriculture. Forest and wood cover 42.6% of the area and 3.6% are settlement areas.
Entlebuch borders on Doppleschwand , Hasle , Malters , Romoos (exclave Dieplischwand), Schüpfheim , Schwarzenberg , Werthenstein and Wolhusen in the canton of Lucerne - as well as the communities of Alpnach and Sarnen in the canton of Obwalden.
The Entlebuch region is part of the UNESCO biosphere because of its high moorland . The region has marked hiking and cycling trails. In winter, a cross-country ski run is created in Finsterwald and a small ski slope in Gfellen .

From 1745 to 1850 the population doubled. After that, it fell through emigration to other regions of Switzerland and emigration overseas until 1910 despite high birth surpluses (1850-1910: −14.9%). In the following 50 years up to 1960 it then grew considerably (1910–1960: +26.4%). After a setback in the 1970s and 1980s, there was another increase, but this has now slowed down.
languages
The population uses a highly Alemannic dialect as their everyday language. The language of the Entlebuch shows considerable differences compared to the dialect of the Lucerne region. At the last census in 2000, 96.67% said German, 0.74% Albanian and 0.59% Italian were the main languages.
Religions - denominations
The entire population used to be members of the Roman Catholic Church. This has changed, partly because of immigration from other regions of Switzerland and from abroad. Nevertheless, the people in Entlebuch are still more devout than the national average and church resignations are also less frequent here. Today (as of 2000) the religious landscape looks as follows: There are 87.64% Roman Catholic, 4.40% Evangelical Reformed and 0.33% Orthodox Christians. There are also 2.0% Muslims and 5.9% non-denominational and others.
Origin - nationality
At the end of 2014, of the 3,325 inhabitants, 3,102 were Swiss and 223 (= 6.7%) were foreigners. The population consisted of 93.3% Swiss citizens. At the end of 2014, the foreign residents came from Germany (24.7%), Serbia including Kosovo (10.3%), Portugal (9.9%), Italy (2.7%), Spain (2.2%) and the Turkey (2.2%). 21.1% came from the rest of Europe and 26.9 % came from outside Europe.
history
Due to different names, one can infer a late Alemannic settlement. In 1139, Pope Innocent II confirmed the Trub Monastery in Enndlybuch. Other monasteries also owned property in Entlebuch. Later the barons of Wolhusen became the secular lords. They sold their property to the Habsburgs . The community then belonged to Wolhusen until 1385. The Vogt Peter von Thorberg administered the area around 1350 - he restricted the freedoms of the farmers and increased the taxes, which made him unpopular with the people. In 1385, the Entlebuchers therefore entered into an alliance with the city of Lucerne . In 1405 she paid the Habsburgs (as still nominal lords) 300 guilders for the interior (= Entlebuch) and exterior office of Wolhusen. The Entlebuchers, like their neighbors in Obwalden, were very keen on their independence. So they fought against Lucerne's influence on various occasions. In 1513 they took part in the Onion War and in 1653 the Entlebuch was a center of the rebellious farmers in the Peasants' War . After the defeat in the latter, the freedom rights were restricted. Until the fall of the Old Confederation, the place belonged to the Landvogtei Entlebuch; In 1798 the community came to the Schüpfheim district and in 1803 to the then newly created Entlebuch office. By the way, Schüpfheim and not Entlebuch is the main town of the office.

On Nesslenbrunnenboden in Finsterwald, Luzernische Erdöl AG (Leag) extracted approx. 74 million m 3 of natural gas from 1985 to 1994 and fed it into the transit gas pipeline between Holland and Italy. In addition, 2400 m 3 of light oil were produced . An industrial monument on the Bohrplatte leisure area reminds of this today.
