Peter von Thorberg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Peter von Thorberg (Torberg) (* 1321 ; † 1400 ) was a knight, Vogt in Entlebuch LU and founder of the Thorberg Monastery (later Thorberg Castle ).

Around 1350 Austria pledged the Entlebuch to Peter von Thorberg, in 1363 to Petermann I von Grünenberg and in 1369 again to the Thorberger. This restricted the freedoms of the peasants, increased the taxes and thereby made himself unpopular with the people. In 1385, the Entlebuchers therefore entered into an alliance with the city of Lucerne . Peter von Thorberg and his subordinate Claus Trube then murdered citizens of Entlebuch because they had asked Lucerne for help. On January 3, 1386 Thorberg was driven out by the Lucerne troops.

His castle was conquered in 1386 by the Bernese, against whom Thorberg had always fought. In 1397 the Thorberg monastery was founded after numerous turmoil.

Peter von Thorberg buys (seizes) the town and castle Klingnau on November 16, 1371 from the bishop of Constance Monastery , Heinrich III. from Brandis .

narrative

In Arnold Winkelried , the mayor Klaus von Matt speaks to the Schwendi Bauer:
“The bailiffs hate us Lucerne like the plague. You know what happened to the people in Entlebuch because they too asked for our protection. The mighty bailiff Peter von Thorberg took her hard in his fingers. It screams to the sky how his subordinate Claus Trube buttoned some good men to the trees, drowned them or threw them into the tower. God keep you from such misfortune! "

Headquarters

Thorberg Castle is located in the municipality of Krauchthal , Canton Bern. From the castle of the Lords of Thorberg, first mentioned in a document in 1175, only a remnant of the tower foundation remains.
