Location of the municipality | |
Krauchthal is a municipality in the Emmental administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . The community consists of the localities Krauchthal (with Hub and Dieterswald) and Hettiswil (with Grauenstein and Hängelen).
geography
The community is located in the foothills of the Alps in the valley of the Krauchalbach and opens the Emmental from the north. It is located almost exactly between the cities of Bern and Burgdorf . The two localities of Krauchthal and Hub are located in a narrow valley that stretches in an east-west direction. Dieterswald, on the other hand, lies on a slightly sloping plateau. Hettiswil is located to the north with an open view over the Bernese plateau with a view as far as the southern foot of the Jura in moderately hilly terrain.
Krauchthal borders in the north on Mötschwil , in the northeast on Burgdorf , in the east on Oberburg , in the southeast on Lützelflüh , in the south on Vechigen , in the south-west on Bolligen , in the west on Bäriswil and in the north-west on Mattstetten and Hindelbank .
Attractions
Immediately on the eastern edge of the village rises the almost one hundred meter high vertical rock pinnacle Kreuzfluh, on top of which there is a viewing pavilion. At the foot of the Lindenberg, the Ice Age glaciers had washed away caves that were already inhabited by people in the Stone Age. The cave dwellings of the Fluehüsli are located in these today. Thorberg Castle stands on a rock pinnacle southwest of the village . The landmark of Hettiswil is the Lindenzytli monastery bell .
history
The names of the localities appear for the first time as follows: Krauchthal 1208, Hettiswil 1107, Hub and Dieterswald 1329 and Thorberg 1196. Krauchthal and Hettiswil were coined by the Thorberg Charterhouse and the Cluniac Priory of Hettiswil until the Reformation (1528) . After the Reformation, Thorberg Castle served as the seat of a Bernese governor and is now home to a cantonal penal institution .
