history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1274 under the name Zielibach ; from 1319 the spelling Zielebach has been handed down. The place name goes back to the Old High German personal name Ziolo or Cielo and therefore means Bach des Ziolo / Cielo .
In the Middle Ages , Zielebach belonged to the Lords of Grünenberg. Since 1341, the Sankt Urban monastery also had rich property in the village. Shortly after 1400 Zielebach came under Bernese sovereignty, to the rule of Landshut and in the sphere of influence of the Landvogtei Wangen , which exercised the high level of jurisdiction. With the sale of the Landshut rule in 1514, the village came under direct Bern rule and was assigned to the Landshut bailiff.
After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Zielebach belonged to the Burgdorf district during the Helvetic Republic and from 1803 to the Oberamt Fraubrunnen, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. Zielebach does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Utzenstorf.
