Rüti bei Lyssach is a municipality in the Emmental administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .
geography
Rüti near Lyssach is 523 m above sea level. M. , 4 km west of the city of Burgdorf (linear distance). The small village extends in a basin at the southern edge of the flood plain of the Emme , at the foot of the tertiary sandstone of higher Swiss Central Plateau .
The area of the 1.3 km² municipal area comprises a slightly undulating section of the central Bernese plateau. The main part is taken up by the approximately 1.5 km long and 0.5 km wide basin of Rüti, which is drained by a stream north to the Emme. In the north, this valley basin is flanked by the Räbberg and the Binzberg ( 551 m above sea level ), in the west by the Büelhölzli and in the south by the Schneiteberg . On the northern slope of the Schneiteberg is 590 m above sea level. M. reached the highest point of Rüti near Lyssach. To the east, the municipality extends up to the hill of the Rohrmishubels . In 1997, 9% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 11% for forests and woodlands and 80% for agriculture.

With 160 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018), Rüti near Lyssach is one of the smallest communities in the canton of Bern. 97.4% of the residents speak German, 0.6% speak French and 0.6% speak Spanish (as of 2000). The population of Rüti near Lyssach was 132 inhabitants in 1850 and 128 in 1900. In the course of the 20th century the population always fluctuated between 100 and 140 inhabitants, but has shown an increasing trend in recent years.

Until the second half of the 20th century, Rüti near Lyssach was predominantly an agricultural village. Today arable farming , fruit growing and animal husbandry have a minor role in the income structure of the population. Outside the primary sector there are very few jobs in the village. Most of the employed people are commuters who mainly work in the closer region (Bern-Burgdorf).

The community is located about 500 m from the old main road from Bern via Hindelbank to Burgdorf . The closest connection to the A1 motorway (Bern-Zurich) is around 3 km from the town center. The Lyssach train station , around 1.5 km from the town center, offers access to public transport .
history
The place was first mentioned in a document in 1346 under the name Rüti . The place name goes back to the Old High German word riod (clearing). In the Middle Ages, Rüti near Lyssach was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Kyburg . After the village came under the rule of the Bernese in 1406, it was assigned to the Burgdorf mayor's office in 1471. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Rüti near Lyssach belonged to the Burgdorf district during the Helvetic Republic and from 1803 to the Burgdorf Oberamt, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.
Attractions
In the old town center there are numerous characteristic farmhouses in the Bernese country style from the 18th and 19th centuries. Rüti near Lyssach has a small country church in the late Romanesque style, which was later changed several times.
