The Swiss cities of Geneva , Morges , Yverdon-les-Bains , Neuchâtel , Biel / Bienne , Grenchen , Solothurn , Olten , Aarau , Brugg and Baden are located in this area.

Transport infrastructure

A bundle of SBB railway lines runs along the southern foot of the Jura , which among other things connect the cities mentioned and are called the southern foot of the Jura . In contrast, there is the Mittellandlinie , which leads from Morges via Lausanne , Friborg , Bern and Langenthal to Olten.

Flood

In the Solothurn municipality of Bettlach , during a severe storm in the summer of 2007, the village stream, which rises in the Jura, overflowed its banks for the first time in a very long time and discharged massive debris into the settlement area. The worst event of this kind in this region had already happened in the 1970s in the neighboring municipality of Selzach . At that time there was talk of an actual mountain demolition which, with luck, did not result in deaths.
