Arnold Otto Kaech-Scholl

Arnold Otto Kaech-Scholl (born March 7, 1881 in Entlebuch LU , † December 7, 1965 ) was a Swiss hydraulic engineer .

Life

Kaech-Scholl comes from the family of a country doctor in Entlebuch in Switzerland. After attending secondary school in Basel and completing an apprenticeship, he studied at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich (ETH) with a diploma in 1904. He then worked for the waterworks of the city of Basel. From 1907 to 1912 he was the construction manager of the Wyhlen power plant . His further life took him to Germany and for German companies to Russia, Poland and Romania.

Before returning to Switzerland, he was involved in the planning of the Marbach am Neckar power plant . At home he completed his military service alongside his professional activity.

In 1920 he was given responsibility for the construction of the Oberhasli power plants by the Bernese power plants . Due to in-depth studies, he changed Gabriel Narutowicz's preliminary project in many ways. The construction of the first stage took place from 1925 to 1932. He moved the central Innertkirchen of the second stage into a cavern , which attracted particular attention at the time.

The ETH Zurich awarded him an honorary doctorate and the municipality of Innertkirchen awarded him honorary citizenship .

In the following years he worked on many other power plants at home and abroad, e.g. B. 1936 with the construction of the dam of the Ricobaio power plant and from 1952 with the construction of the power plant on the border river Duero . The Spanish Ministry of Public Works honored him with a medal in 1964. Kaech's reputation as an excellent specialist in the construction of hydropower plants was established with the construction of the Oberhasli power plants and subsequently consolidated internationally. In all of his buildings, he attached particular importance to nature conservation concerns .

His son Arnold Käch was an officer, skier and functionary and author.
