history

After the eastern part of the Münsterland fell to Prussia as the Principality of Münster in 1803 through the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss , the Principality was divided into four districts on January 1, 1804 by a Prussian order . In addition to the circles Beckum , Lüdinghausen and Warendorf was county Munster set up. It comprised the towns of Bevergern and Telgte , the parishes of Albachten , Dreierwalde , Gimbte , Handorf , Hiltrup Hopsten , Lamberti , Ostbevern , Riesenbeck , St. Mauritz , Telgte , Überwasser and Westbevern as well as smaller areas of the parishes of Emsdetten , Greven , on the right of the Ems , Havixbeck , Mesum , Nienberge , Nottuln , Rheine , Roxel and Saerbeck . The city of Münster remained independent.

District Administrator of was Franz von Korff gen. Schmising-Kerssenbrock . When the districts in the Principality of Münster were reorganized, the district of Münster was enlarged on June 1, 1806 by the largest part of the dissolved district of Lüdinghausen. At the same time, the new Bevergern district was formed from the northern part of the Münster district . With the Peace of Tilsit in 1807, Prussia renounced its ownership rights to the Principality of Münster. In 1808 the district came to the Grand Duchy of Berg and in 1810 the northwestern part of the former district was annexed by France . The French period lasted in Münsterland until the invasion of Prussian troops in autumn 1813.

The Münster district in 1842

Due to the regulations of the Congress of Vienna , the Münsterland finally fell to Prussia in 1815 and became part of the new province of Westphalia . As part of the subdivision of the Münster administrative district , another Münster district was formed on August 10, 1816, initially consisting of the mayor's offices of Greven, Ladbergen, Nottuln, Roxel, Sankt Mauritz, Saerbeck, Telgte and Wolbeck. The city of Münster was an immediate city and did not belong to the district, but became its administrative seat.

On January 1, 1832, the Münster district gave the communities of Ladbergen to the Tecklenburg district and Appelhülsen to the Lüdinghausen district , but received the new Havixbeck community from the Coesfeld district . Appelhülsen returned to the Münster district on January 1st, 1838.

With the introduction of the rural community order for the province of Westphalia in 1843 and 1844, the mayor's offices were transferred to offices . Since then, the district has been divided into the following seven offices and 23 municipalities:

Office Communities
Greven Gimbte and Greven
Havixbeck Havixbeck
Mauritz Amelsbüren , Handorf , Hiltrup , Lamberti , St. Mauritz and Überwasser
Nottuln Appelhülsen , Nottuln and Schapdetten
Roxel Albachten , Bösensell , Nienberge and Roxel
Saerbeck Saerbeck
Telgte City of Telgte , parish Telgte and Westbevern
Wolbeck Albersloh , Alverskirchen , Angelmodde , Rinkerode , Wigbold Wolbeck and the parish of Wolbeck

The incorporation, which came into effect on January 1, 1875, brought parts of the communities Lamberti, Überwasser and Sankt Mauritz to the city of Münster. As a result, the district lost around 8.9 km² in area. On October 1, 1894, the two new communities Greven on the right of the Ems and Greven on the left of the Ems were spun off from Greven. On April 1, 1903, Lamberti and Überwasser as well as other parts of the Mauritz office were incorporated into the city of Münster. In total, an area of 56.4 km² fell to Münster. The offices of Havixbeck and Saerbeck were abolished in 1934. On August 10, 1952, Greven to the right of the Ems and Greven to the left of the Ems were incorporated back into Greven. Greven and Gimbte have been vacant since then. On April 1, 1957, the municipalities of Wigbold Wolbeck and Parish Wolbeck were merged to form the municipality of Wolbeck.

By the law on the amalgamation of the city of Telgte and the municipality of Kirchspiel Telgte , the municipality of Kirchspiel Telgte was incorporated into the city of Telgte on July 1, 1968. On October 1, 1969, the district became the district of Münster.

Due to the Münster / Hamm law , the Münster district, which last comprised 22 communities, was dissolved on January 1, 1975 and divided between the city of Münster and the newly formed neighboring districts. In addition, all offices of the district were dissolved and numerous parish mergers took place:
