Appelhülsen is one of the four districts of the municipality of Nottuln in the Coesfeld district in North Rhine-Westphalia . Until the end of 1974 Appelhülsen was an independent municipality .

history

First mentioned in a document in 1022, Appelhülsen was built on the old Heerstraße which led from the Rhine to the bishopric of Münster . Hof Oppenhues (later Hof Schulze Frenking, today the Citizens' Center Appelhülsen) stood on a permanent place surrounded by ramparts and ditches. It was open to everyone and offered shelter and protection to every refugee.

In 1030 one of the oldest churches in Westphalia was built in Appelhülsen. The widow of Count Wichmann III. and their daughter Vrederuna donate after the violent death of Wichmann III. seven churches in Münsterland, including the first church in Appelhülsen. The widow's name was Reinmod (Reinmodis, Reginmoud, Richmod, Richtmoet) and belonged to the Cappenberger family.

After the Frenkinghof came into the possession of the Alter Dom Abbey in Münster when it was founded in the 11th century, the village was built on the grounds of this courtyard.

On January 1, 1975, Appelhülsen was incorporated into Nottuln by the Münster / Hamm Act . The last mayor of the independent municipality of Appelhülsen was Hugo Eberhardt from the Center Party .

The center for magic art is located in Appelhülsen, in the form of a foundation run by the magicians Uwe Schenk and Michael Sondermeyer . It houses numerous magic objects as well as an archive and the library of the Magical Circle of Germany with 4200 books. Schenk and Sondermeyer also have 10,000 books and 22,000 magazine issues on the subject of magic.

From the Nottuln-Appelhülsen train station on the Wanne-Eickel-Hamburg railway line, the Niers-Haard Express ( RE 42 ) runs every 30 minutes in the direction of Münster or Essen . This connection is made every hour to Mönchengladbach . The historic station building built by the Cologne-Mindener Eisenbahn-Gesellschaft was badly damaged by Hurricane Kyrill in January 2007 and was therefore torn down shortly before Easter 2007.
