Klaus Meyer-Schwickerath (born December 19, 1921 in Elberfeld , † February 20, 2014 in Münster ) was a German administrative lawyer , senior district director and regional councilor of the Westphalia-Lippe Regional Association (LWL).

Klaus Meyer-Schwickerath was born as the son of Edmund Meyer (1887–1973) and Josephine Meyer geb. Schmitz (1890-1959). In 1935 the family also took the maiden name of Edmund Meyer's mother (Julie Schwickerath, 1860–1929) and from then on called themselves Meyer-Schwickerath. One year before Klaus the brother Gerhard Meyer-Schwickerath was born, who studied medicine and became known as an ophthalmologist.

Education and activity

Meyer-Schwickerath studied law in Münster and Freiburg (Switzerland) . In Münster he became a member of the K.St.V. Marcomannia in KV . He initially worked as a lawyer in Münster, then worked for the Deutsche Bundesbahn and for the road construction administration. In 1958 he entered the service of what was then the Münster district as a district administrator and rose to senior district director. From 1966 to 1974 he was the first managing director of Münster / Osnabrück Airport , the establishment of which is largely due to his initiative.

In 1969 he was elected by the regional assembly of the Regional Association of Westphalia-Lippe as the first regional councilor and treasurer of the association. He was re-elected in 1981 and held the post until he retired in 1986. As treasurer of the LWL, Meyer-Schwickerath held numerous offices for the association. He was chairman of the supervisory board of the Westfälische Verkehrs-Gesellschaft and Westfälische Landes-Eisenbahn (1980–1986), managing director and vice-president of the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gesellschaft and a member of the supervisory and administrative board of the Westdeutsche Landesbank , the Westfälische Provinzial Feuersozietät (today Westfälische Provinzial Versicherung Aktiengesellschaft ) and the Westfälische Provinzial-Lebensversicherungsanstalt (today Provinzial NordWest Lebensversicherung , for a summary of both insurances see Westfälische Provinzial ). In the obituary for Meyer-Schwickerath, his services to the financial redevelopment of the LWL clinics, the far-sighted property policy and the German-English contacts to the county of Yorkshire are particularly emphasized .

Meyer-Schwickerath was also the administrative director of the Pauluskolleg dormitory in Münster for 30 years, as well as managing director of the Gesellschaft der Musik- und Theaterfreunde Münsters and the Münsterland eV for many years

Honors

Meyer-Schwickerath was awarded the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia on May 13, 2000 .
