The municipality of Rheine on the right bank of the Ems last had an area of ​​46 km². It originally consisted of the farming communities Altenrheine, Eschendorf , Gellendorf , Schotthock and Rodde . In the 20th century, the development of the city of Rheine also expanded into the municipality.

history

After the Napoleonic era , the area of ​​the municipality initially belonged to the Rheine mayor in the Steinfurt district founded in 1816. With the introduction of the Westphalian rural community order in 1844, the Rheine mayor's office became the Rheine office, to which the city of Rheine (only until 1851) and the rural communities of Rheine on the right of the Ems, Rheine on the left of the Ems , Elte and Mesum belonged. On April 1, 1927, the parts of the farmers' communities Eschendorf, Gellendorf and Schotthock were incorporated into the city of Rheine. Due to the Münster / Hamm law , the municipality of Rheine on the left of the Ems was incorporated into the city of Rheine on January 1, 1975.
