Hermann Fechtrup

Hermann Fechtrup (born May 15, 1928 in Münster , Westphalia ) is a former German politician ( CDU ) and senior city director of Münster.

Life

After graduating from high school, Fechtrup studied law and political science. In 1956 the doctorate followed . He held his first political office in 1960, when he was elected district director of the Münster district. In 1969 he was elected senior district director of the district. On November 1, 1973, Fechtrup was elected senior city director and successor to Heinrich Austermann by the Münster city council.

During his term of office, the local government reform of January 1, 1975, the accomplishment of which was one of his important tasks. In addition, he was involved in the further expansion of the city as a regional center in the Münsterland and as an administrative and university city, whereby he was particularly committed to the Münster Art Academy and the construction of large university buildings. Fechtrup also made other urban planning decisions, such as the Aegidiimarkt , the new buildings of the Karstadt and Horten department store chains , the redesign of Salzstraße , Klemensstraße, Ludgeristraße and Domplatz . He held the office of City Director until March 31, 1989.

In addition to his work as senior city director, Fechtrup was also active in various committees of the German Association of Cities and the Association of Cities in North Rhine-Westphalia and was involved in various church and social institutions. He is a member of the Catholic student association KStV Hansea-Halle Münster.
