Westbevern ( Low German Westbiäwern ) is a district of Telgte with 3792 inhabitants.

location

Westbevern is located north of Telgte an der Bever , which flows through the town from east to west and flows into the Ems behind the noble residence Haus Langen , which belongs to Westbevern .

Westbevern borders Telgte on Greven , Ostbevern and Ostbevern-Brock .

The Alte Beverwiese and Haus Langen nature reserves are designated in the Westbeverns area.

history

Westbevern was run as an independent municipality on March 5, 1818 by order of the royal government in Münster. In addition to the village "Westbevern", the villages Vadrup and Brock belonged to it .

On January 1, 1975, Westbevern was divided between Ostbevern and Telgte as part of the regional reform in North Rhine-Westphalia . The district Brock went to Ostbevern.

The beaver is a " talking " symbol (see Ostbevern ). The diamonds come from the coat of arms of the von Langen family , former owners of the Langen family .

Architectural monuments

The center of the village is the parish church of St. Cornelius and Cyprianus (parish of St. Marien, Telgte). The lower part of the tower dates from the 13th century, while the neo-Gothic nave was built in 1897/98. The most valuable piece of church furnishings is the Gröninger Altar from 1631; it was donated by the cathedral dean of Hildesheim and Munster Heidenreich von Letmathe.

In Vadrup , the Westbevern stop is on the Wanne-Eickel-Hamburg railway line . Here trains on the RB 66 line run between Münster and Osnabrück . Since December 2019, the Rhein-Haard-Express (RE 2) has also been a direct connection from Düsseldorf.

Personalities

The show jumper and Olympic champion Alfons Lütke-Westhues (1930-2004) was born in Westbevern, the district administrator and canon Maximilian von Elverfeldt (1763-1831) in the house of Langen.
