The state road L 588 runs north, the Bever flows to the east, and the Ems flows to the west and south . An unnamed tributary of the Bever flows through the area.
The protection takes place

- for the maintenance and development of species-rich wet and wet grassland with marsh marigold meadows and reeds
- for the conservation, development and promotion of communities or habitats of rare and endangered wild plant and animal species
- as a habitat for amphibians , reptiles , dragonflies and aquatic insects
- for scientific, natural history, geographical and geological reasons
- because of the rarity, special character, diversity, beauty and irreplaceability of the area
