The Klatenberge nature reserve is located in the Warendorf district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 36.2 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 2008 , extends north of the core town of Telgte directly on the L 811 state road , which runs past the western edge . The B 51 runs to the east and south and the Ems flows to the west .

The protection is given in particular

for the maintenance, development and restoration of communities and habitats with the animal and plant species that depend on them
for the preservation and development of a juniper heather and for the promotion of species and societies of the sandy grasslands
as a valuable biotope for a specialized flora and fauna on inland dunes of the Ems
because of the uniqueness of the dune location with cultural, historical and scientific importance
because of the rarity, peculiarity and outstanding beauty of the area
