The Klatenberge nature reserve is located in the Warendorf district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 36.2 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 2008 , extends north of the core town of Telgte directly on the L 811 state road , which runs past the western edge . The B 51 runs to the east and south and the Ems flows to the west .

The protection is given in particular

  • for the maintenance, development and restoration of communities and habitats with the animal and plant species that depend on them
  • for the preservation and development of a juniper heather and for the promotion of species and societies of the sandy grasslands
  • as a valuable biotope for a specialized flora and fauna on inland dunes of the Ems
  • because of the uniqueness of the dune location with cultural, historical and scientific importance
  • because of the rarity, peculiarity and outstanding beauty of the area
