Setup date 1958

The Vellern quarry nature reserve is located in the Warendorf district in North Rhine-Westphalia .

The approximately 14 hectare area, which was placed under nature protection in 1958 , extends north of Vellern , a district of Beckum . The A 2 runs not far to the south-east and the Hellbach flows not far to the north-west of the area.

The nature reserve is an old, abandoned, now very diverse limestone excavation. In addition to species-rich limestone grasslands and bushes , very valuable limestone sump vegetation was able to develop due to groundwater leakage.
