Vellern is northeast of the Beckum town center. The former municipality of Vellern covered an area of ​​15.68 km².

history

Vellern had been a church village since 1193 . Since the 19th century, Vellern has formed a community in the Beckum district of the Beckum district together with the Hesseler and Höckelmer farmers . By the law on the reorganization of the district of Soest and parts of the district of Beckum , the municipality of Vellern was incorporated into the city of Beckum on July 1, 1969.

The district of Vellern is crossed by the federal motorway 2 . When it was built in the 1930s in Vellern, the first prestressed concrete bridge over a motorway in Germany was built for the Weg Hesseler flyover . It was dismantled in 2012 and erected as a memorial at the Vellern motorway service station.
