The district of Blankenheim was a district in the Eifel in the former administrative district of Aachen . It was formed in 1816, but was dissolved again in 1818 and incorporated into the Gemünd district.

history

In the course of the administrative reorganization of the Prussian Rhineland after the Congress of Vienna , the administrative district of Aachen and its administrative districts, including the "Blankenheim District", were set up in the Prussian province of the Grand Duchy of Lower Rhine on April 20, 1816 . The district comprised twelve mayor's offices , which had belonged to the cantons of Blankenheim , Reifferscheid (both Département de la Sarre ) and Kronenburg ( Département Ourthe ) in the previous French period:

The mayor's offices of Dahlem, Hellenthal, Hollerath, Kronenburg, Reifferscheid, Udenbreth and Wahlen had a special position. During the French era they belonged to the cantons of Kronenburg, Reifferscheid and Schleiden. These three cantons were ceded by Prussia to the Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz in a secret treaty on September 18, 1816 , but were still administered by Prussia. In 1819 Prussia bought these areas back for 1 million thalers.

The only district administrator was Friedrich Joseph Freiherr von Coels von der Brügghen (* October 25, 1784, † September 24, 1856). He took office on May 1, 1816. His official seat, the District Office, was in Klosterstrasse in Blankenheim.

The Blankenheim district did not last long. It was dissolved by the highest cabinet order on March 16, 1818, and its mayor's offices were incorporated into the Gemünd district with effect from June 15, 1818.
